I was very happy I had more blood than him. It was a horrible thought as I helped try to keep him alive. The accident was considered a "freak accident". Not many trees really come jumping out at you after all. He was one of the lucky ones -- err -- well, he was one of the unlucky ones to have a "jumping" tree. Though, that wasn't worst of it. Blood splattered everywhere including my clothes. The tree didn't jump on him. It crushed him. His vehicle, once a pretty Mustang, was a mangled mess of metal. Being a paramedic, my tolerance of blood was high. This was above my high. He was still alive though. Barely. He lost so much blood in such a short amount of time; I was amazed he was still alive. The others shouted and jumbled around me as they tried to figure what to do with him. He needed a blood transfusion. Nobody knew his blood type. Nobody could -- I paused. I could give him blood. I had the "all-powerful" universal blood type. I was very happy I had more blood than him. They got to work with the transfusion for the ride to the hospital. They would have more blood there than within my tiny body. But at the moment, he was alive.
I wrote this as a short of practice challenge for FFM (Flash Fiction Month). The prompt was: I was very happy I had more blood than him. I liked the prompt, and I thought of this right away. Within the same week, two vehicles had trees fall on top of them. One was a lot worse than the other, but these "freak" accidents are kind of creepy. They were in different places, of course, so you can't blame it on the location. It's weird. Trees aren't supposed to move. Not at all. Anyway, I thought I'd upload it here since I hadn't uploaded anything for awhile.
